About Us
Bougainville Youth Federation (BYF) is a non-profit organization established by Department of Community Development through the Bougainville Youth Policy (2011-2017). Entrusted by the Autonomous Bougainville Government with the responsibility of representing 17 District and Urban Youth Associations across Autonomous Region of Bougainville in regional processes. These are Atolls, Nissan, Buka, Kokopau, Selau, Suir, Kunua, Torokina, Tinputz, Wakunai, Panguna, Kieta, Bana, Siwai, and Buin District Youth Associations with Arawa Urban and Buka Urban Youth Associations. Traditionally, the core operating function of Bougainville Youth Federation was to act as the representative body of minorities in regional debates where economic and social development processes are engaged by State-Owned- Enterprises and Non-Profit Organizations.
Bougainville Youth Federation emerged after the Bougainville Civil War as an initiative to promote inclusive nation building where grassroots are granted equal space for participation. Transforming the mindset of youth in Bougainville through proactive project engagements and inclusive decision making. The institution is vested with a delegated authority by the Department of Community Development to provide an equal opportunity platform for youths across the region. Coordinate youth and community development programs in rural and urban youth associations.
Its essential social outreach programs are regulated by the Autonomous Government, Bougainville Partners and other affiliated business houses. The Bougainville Youth Policy specifies BFY project forecasts and scope of engagements with all companies.
Our Mission
Youth as individuals are healthy, of sound mind and attitude, with strong sense of identity and deep respect of traditional customs. That youth as individual’s posses a clear sense of direction in life guided by a strong moral, ethical and spiritual compass.
Our Vision
As youth our vision is that youth in Bougainville participate as equal, respected, competent, professional and economic partners in all youth governance and development programs in Bougainville, including political and governance processes.
What We Do
Bougainville Youth Federation acts as an umbrella organization that unites youth in Bougainville through their District and Urban Youth Associations. We are a network that supports District Youth Associations in assisting youth development on a regional scale.
